From fine dining to camp cooking
During the summer months, our restaurants are extremely busy with the many visitors who enjoy our region. Whenever possible, make reservations at local restaurants to insure better service and then sit back and relax. After all, you are on vacation! During other times of year, check with the sources listed at the end of this page to know which restaurants are open and their hours. The pubs are generally a little more relaxed and "laid back". Here you can get a good meal, catch up on the local gossip, sometimes watch TV, shoot pool, play video games and enjoy "good grog" at the same time. Throughout the county, there are many opportunities for family dining where you will feel comfortable with the children and won't have to spend a fortune. Many of these locations are more or less fast food locations as well. Many offer high chairs, place mats to entertain children and the kind of atmosphere where kids are welcome. If you enjoy sipping cocktails on a deck, listening to the sound of the water lapping at the dock, or if you relish freshly boiled lobster eaten in a picnic setting, you can fulfill these kinds of romantic, relaxed dining experiences in the Moosehead Region. These experiences provide refreshing summer alternatives to the standard dining situations. Dining throughout the region is always informal in the sense that no where must you be attired in black tie and "tux". In fact, people would think you a little strange - even in our finest restaurants. We are relaxed, outdoors people and we hope that those who vacation here will prefer our informal, casual atmosphere as we do. We are well acquainted with fine cuisine. You will find classic country dining with such superb and delectable appetizers as goose soup, sauerkraut balls, smoked trout and lobster brioche. Entrees of duck a I'orange, roast leg of lamb, roast stuffed quail and shrimp with pesto will leave you filled with delight. Scrumptious and tempting desserts such as elegant chocolate decadence, Grande Marnier chocolate mousse and strawberry tartlets offer a fulfilling conclusion to any meal. You will leave our finest restaurants determined to return only to try another excellent menu offering on the next visit.
