Hunting in the Moosehead Lake Region
White Tail Deer

In terms of deer hunting, few areas of the country offer the kind of comprehensive package, provided by the Moosehead Region. Hunters may not harvest as many animals here , but the region offers rewards found lacking elsewhere. For sportsmen seeking the chance to hunt whitetails in wild country where hunters don't outnumber trees, autumn color is more common than blaze orange and the deer grow to world class trophy size, the Moosehead Region is the perfect destination.

Thousands of acres of paper company land are open to the public. In these vast woods, large tracts of uninhabited forest with hardwood ridges, cedar swamps and dense stands of fir trees provide excellent habitat for deer, bear and moose. The many abandoned logging roads allow ready access to the back country.

Bucks tend to average around 160-pounds live weight and animals in the 200 pound class are by no means rare. Each year, trophy deer are taken that scale in at between 250 and 300 pounds.

The sporting camps, lodges and guide services in the region can assist in planning, outfitting and guiding you on a hunting experience of a lifetime.
