Hunters may not harvest as many animals here , but the region offers rewards found lacking elsewhere. Thousands of acres of paper company land are open to the public. In these vast woods, large tracts of uninhabited forest with hardwood ridges, cedar swamps and dense stands of fir trees provide excellent habitat for deer, bear and moose. The many abandoned logging roads allow ready access to the back country.

Bucks tend to average around 160-pounds live weight and animals in the 200 pound class are by no means rare. Each year, trophy deer are taken that scale in at between 250 and 300 pounds.
