Katahdin
Scenic cruises of Moosehead lake Memorial weekend through September

Please send for our 1999 schedule and information

For many years, before the opening of the road system, water traffic was the only mode of transportation around the Moosehead Region. Steamboats carried livestock, railroad equipment supplies and passengers. The need for Moosehead steamboats began to diminish with the advancing roads, and they slowly disappeared. The Katahdin was the only one left of the fleet, and she became a towboat hauling pulpwood. In 1975 she hauled her last log boom across Moosehead Lake to the East Outlet.

coupon Scott Paper Co. presented the Katahdin to the Moosehead Marine Museum in 1977. In 1985, after many years of devoted work by many people who still believed in the era of steamboats, the Katahdin, queen of the fleet, once again plied the deep waters of Moosehead Lake.

The Major repairs to the hull of the Kahtahdin have been completed. This signals the end to the most critical segment of our restoration program. For more history, read A Brief History of the Katahdin. by Durward J. Ferland Jr.

We still need a lot of help and your donation will be greatly appreciated.
